    Custom Acoustic Song

    ,
I'd estimate that 95% of every song i've ever written has been written on acoustic guitar - it's the canary down the mine - if it can work with one vocal and acoustic then trust me, the bells, oboes, lead guitar and bass drum will make it better. This item is offering you a completely original acoustic song based upon your story or life. You tell me what's going on or about an old memory and i will write and sing it to you. I love the challenge!

    Custom Acoustic Cover Song

    ,
I will be honest - if you are a soundman that has ever facilitated one of my shows, you'll know this; i am not a guitarist/singer that knows any other songs than my own. I've just always been that way. I can't pick up a guitar and play 100 classics like most can, i much prefer to just play my own music all of the time. However! I do jam at home to the occasional cover song. If you'd like me to cover your favourite song, then this is your chance! I'm open to pretty much anything provided the song isn't hateful, racist or horrible.

    Cambridge – 28 Years Ago

'28 Years Ago' was written and recorded in 2014 as part of my '365 Sparks' project, however i heard from Australian band, Cambridge in 2015 who were enquiring about the possibility of including it as the lead single on their upcoming EP. We were able to come to a deal and the boys went to re-record the song [in their own slightly different version] in the studio. I think what they've done with it is awesome! You can hear my original demo here. Buy the song on iTunes and help the boys [and me ;)] out.

    Every ‘365 Scribbles’ Poem Sheet

My '365 Scribbles' project is based around the handwriting of an original poem every day of 2017 - much in the same way '365 Sparks' revolved around writing an original song every day of 2014. These handwritten poems will eventually be packaged up and will sleep in a box in my attic for the rest of time unless i offer them for sale to someone who loves the project. These are the original handwritten pages, not rewrites or scans or image prints. You'll be able to run your fingers around the grooves of my pen on every sheet.

    Every ‘365 Sparks’ Lyric Sheet

One component of my song-a-day-for-a-year project - 365sparks.com - was handwriting that day's lyric and scanning it. These lyrics are currently stored away safely, but i don't intend to revisit them anytime soon and figured that a fan out there may want to purchase them as a full set. I'm under no pressure to sell these and therefore i won't consider the sale for anything less than the price stated. These absolutely one-of-a-kind and are the originals [not rewrites]. If you dug the project, this is your chance to own a vital component of it.

Daveit Ferris – Seven Chord EP

This EP is made up of the 7 'single chord' songs that were released as part of my '365 Sparks' project. Basically, these songs are based around one note from start to finish. I wanted the challenge of having to make things interesting using something other than chord changes [i mainly opted for rhythmic changes it appears ..]. These sessions were really fantastic because i'd never recorded anything like these songs before. If only there were more notes in the scale!

Part of my '365 Sparks' project from the start was the idea to turn the songs released in each month into an album titled after the month - it makes perfect sense. Daveit Ferris – A Taste of 365 Sparks

This EP was released for two reasons; 1. to give the public a taste of the music that was soon to be launching as '365 Sparks'. 2. to have something to reach out to the press with in order to bolster the project prior to it launching. Overall, this EP was really well received and generated a very decent buzz for my project. It was even featured on the covermount CD on an issue of RockSound .. a magazine i've been reading forever - a cool moment! It's intentionally rock biased.

Pyramid Sequence – The Sleeping Pattern of Pharmacists

Niall Dalton approached me about this project before he had any music to show me, however, from knowing Niall's previous work and production, i knew it'd be good work. When i did finally hear the song i was to write and sing over, i absolutely loved it. It was just music, so my role was to write melodies and lyrics and send the files back [we never met during this project] - i love this as it felt very 'Postal Service'. I wrote and recorded everything in an afternoon [with the backing vocal help of a friend, Mark Rogan] and sent the files on. If only all recording experiences were this stress-free! The entire EP [my song is just one of many] is stunning and i still listen to it from time to time today. Go and buy it!

    Ruairi Connolly – This Christmas

Ruairi is a long-time friend that i was in a handful of bands with. He contacted me a month or so before Christmas enquiring about me recording a special Christmas song he'd written in time for a release around Christmas. I was more than happy to oblige. When we got together, the song was just acoustic/guitar and we worked through a lot of different versions of the song before deciding on a route to take. Ruairi recorded his acoustic guitar and vocal on a day and then it was up to me to do the rest. I wrote and recorded all other instrumentation you hear on the piece. We did a final tweak together before releasing it to the world. Thrilled to have been a part of it. Buy it!

Daveit Ferris – Ho Ho [Let It Snow]

In winter 2013, i gave in to the nagging idea of writing and recording an original christmas song. My first drafts were all sentimental piano ballads, but i then i stumbled upon the idea of doing something tongue-in-cheek as to not add one more soppy christmas track to the airwaves. In order to make it a little more special, i enlisted the backing vocal assistance of many friends, something that really brings the track to life. Festive as can be!

    Daveit Ferris – Traces

This was recorded under the name 'Sugar Mixtape' with a fantastic producer called Patrick Trolan in Portstewart, Northern Ireland. Whilst that particular outfit didn't record anything other than this track, i'm pretty proud of how this one turned out. The music personnel that helped bring this song to life are listed in a separate tab, the song itself was written and devised by myself. Paddy has since moved to the states otherwise there would be many more songs of this style in my catalogue!

Daveit Ferris – We Used to Watch the Snowflakes Slowdance

This book was the last in what i call the 'first wave' of my poetry - that's what i call the period from 2008 - 2012 in which i was averaging two new releases a year. Shortly after this period i refocused on other projects and put the poetry on ice for a while. I consider the '365 Scribbles' project the official start of the 'second wave'.

Daveit Ferris – Dresscodes for Lovesick Parties

This is my seventh collection of poetry and one i probably finished the fastest of all due to no real 'writing period' taking place. Instead of this, i gathered up the little bits and pieces i had written over a few months and compiled them into this collection. I edited each poem to allow the entire book to feel like a set - rather than a bunch of differently styled writings.

The third and final poetry book that was released as part of the 'Traffic Lights' poetry project. These poems resemble the style of 'Green Lights' in that they're all full pages of lines and not structured and formatted in the way that 'Amber Lights' was. A nice way to close the project.

    Daveit Ferris – Green Lights

'Green Lights' was the first book in the 'Traffic Lights' poetry project. It was released in 2010 and followed shortly by 'Red Lights' & 'Amber Lights'. Unlike previous poetry, the writing style for this book was just to fill each page with line after line. I didn't want to follow the standard poetry path of half-filled lines or breaking lines for single words, i also didn't want to rhyme the lines. So, what you'll find here is a book jammed full of random lines that lived in my head for a fleeting moment in 2010.

    Daveit Ferris – SleepSummerSleep

This was my second book release and was composed over a few weeks in 2008 - shortly after the release of the first poetry book and during the year in which i released five original solo albums - so a particularly busy time! Daveit Ferris – Polaroid Stories

This is where my love affair with poetry began! A month or two before i released my first ever 'solo' record, i decided to release my first poetry book. I had compiled the poems from 2/3 months worth of stuttered writings. I called it 'Polaroid Stories' because i summed them up as little snapshots of my life during those months. Every poet has to start somewhere and these 100 poems were the first footsteps into what'll be a long poetry career.

Daveit Ferris – White Mountain Sessions

In early 2009, i connected with a music publisher that had his own recording studio - the idea was that i'd spend time there writing and recording material and we'd pitch the results to tv shows, etc. This EP is the first and only session we did together and was more of a 'test' than a finished product, hence why there's only one new song here [and its a demo i did completely alone late one night]. I'm not sure whether i prefer these versions of the tracks or the originals...

    Daveit Ferris – Shiverwrists

This album was written in a state of frustration; at my living situation, at my current band and at my relationship status. On a complete whim, i booked 10 days in a remote recording studio before i had even finished a song. I was working full-time at the time, so it wasn't until the week before sessions were due to start that i finished the songs - too close for comfort! I played everything except the drums [thanks Jack Carlin!]. It was a fantastic experience and i was able to vent in a musical fashion about those feelings.

    Daveit Ferris – New York

'New York' was the fourth album of original material that i released in 2008 - my first year of being 'solo'. The reason i decided to release 'Los Angeles' & 'New York' as a pair was simply because i wrote the songs for both albums during a particularly energetic two-week writing period - it just made sense - for this purpose, both albums are pretty much just vocals/acoustic guitar and sound similar.  This was recorded in the living room of a house with no heating - no vibrato technique needed; the cold supplied the vocal shiver!

    Daveit Ferris – Los Angeles

I've always been fascinated by America. All the best bands and movies come from there. A month or so after releasing my second solo album, i found myself with enough songs to spread across two separate releases - these songs were similar in style, so i decided to package them together as the names of the two most interesting american cities. There's some interesting acoustic parts on this record; bruised, red wine teeth and when we embrace would be three.

Daveit Ferris – The Lonely House Attracts the Hearts

The 'Difficult' second album? Nah! I wrote and recorded this one in about three weeks [around one month after the release of my solo debut] and i enjoyed every minute of it. I learned a lot about my solo writing and production when i was making the first solo record and i took everything i learned into the second album. I don't think i've heard one person question whether it's a better album because everything goes up a notch here. Some of these songs i can still listen to and enjoy all these years later - that's my litmus test!

Daveit Ferris – Invites for Drunk Lips

My first solo album. It was written and recorded within the same few weeks in early 2008. It was recorded at home using nothing more than one microphone, one acoustic guitar and one keyboard. I had absolutely no idea what i was doing [in production terms] whilst recording it; but that made it exciting. I had no plans to be a ‘solo artist'; i just wanted to start recording all the songs i was writing at the time. ‘For what it’s worth‘ and ‘Glitz & The Glamour‘ were recorded by Ryan Mitchell. All songs were written & performed by me.

    Daveit Ferris – Home Demos 2003 – 2004

Toward the very end of 2008, having released four completely original albums earlier in the year, i decided to round up a handful of old 'demos' and 'outtakes' and half-finished ideas and compile them. My thinking was merely to clear the deck a little bit for more music to happen in 2009. There's something awesome about cutting loose a song that inspires new creativity in me. These are incredibly rough as they were only designed for my ears and often just so i wouldn't forget them so minimal effort was involved.

Rescue the Astronauts – Your Scissors / My Seatbelt

A mere day after Mascara Story called it a day, i formed this band. I had no idea what the roadmap was but i knew that i wasn't putting my music on ice. I instantly began writing songs with two guitars in mind [something we had tried in Mascara, but with no success] which was super refreshing. I also was writing with layers in mind - pianos, strings, atmospheres.. it was a new world. It was around three months from the time of Mascara Story ending to being in the studio recording this EP with a new band [with a debut show supporting FallOutBoy along the way!]. Some of my favourite writing of mine to this day and still sounding as strong and fresh as it did all those years ago.

Mascara Story – The Worlds Most Famous Postcode

The Second [and final] EP by Mascara Story. I feel like this was a hugely mature leap from the first EP. The songs are better, the performances are better, the vocals are better and the production is better - we worked incredibly hard to ensure we were bettering our first EP before we booked dates to record these songs. The personnel is exactly the same as EP #1 - with Neal Calderwood producing us in Manor Park Studio. I'm still incredibly proud of this particular EP and to my ears, it still holds up as impactful, unique and solid.

Mascara Story – This is Not a Bruise

This single formed part of the prize for winning the Snickers Unsigned / Kerrang! competition in 2005 - and what an experience it was! Recording in such an amazing studio such as Livingston Studios in London was a dream. The producer we worked with was an absolute gent and someone i still call a friend to this day. We're all in agreement that the slightly premature intro the chorus lets the song down - but we had a strict deadline to adhere to and simply ran out of time to fix this minor issue - oh well! Enjoy :)

Mascara Story – The Importance of Safeguarding

The debut EP by Mascara Story - a real turning point in my music career. This was the first time i really sat down and worked on a bunch of songs with the mindset of them being on an EP. In my previous bands i either didn't write any music or i wasn't writing toward a release. I think my songwriting grew x100 as soon as i start Mascara Story with Sean & Jay. The recording sessions for this EP were intense for me as i had some vocal struggles early on [probably due to nerves] and i couldn't get my sounds as quickly as i'd have wished. However, i'm super proud of this EP as it helped us earn final placement on Kerrang! Magazines Unsigned Band Competition - that we ultimately won.

    Traffic Episode – Demo

This two-track was a demo my band, Traffic Episode, recorded live in the music college [where we were all studying] around late 2001/early early 2002. The recording session was sprung on us at the very last minute as we had no intentions to record - but we took that free opportunity to have someone produce our music! I'm thankful we did as i unfortunately have no other audio memories from that band/era to listen back to or share. Record everything, kids!
